2004 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U500 Camper Conversion
This 2004 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U500 was converted to an expedition-style vehicle under prior ownership. The truck is finished in white over patterned cloth upholstery, and power is from a 6.4-liter turbodiesel inline-six linked to an all-wheel drive system with an eight-speed pre-selector manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, three locking differentials, and portal axles. The camper cabin is outfitted with a galley, a bed, ceiling vents, and LED lighting. Other equipment includes power windows, solar panels, LED perimeter lighting, side and rear awnings, and a power inverter.
The vehicle is finished in white with black wheel arch trim. Fabricated bumpers are fitted, and other equipment includes clearance lights, towing mirrors, side steps, a polished fuel tank, and front and rear receiver hitches. The camper cabin has a rear entry door accompanied by folding steps, while the right-side entry door is accessed via stairs that can be raised and lowered via a power-operated winch. Equipment includes rooftop solar panels, underbody equipment boxes, a freshwater inlet, and a compressed air outlet aft of the left door. The windshield wipers were recently replaced.
Black-finished 20″ steel wheels are mounted with 395/85 Michelin X tires, while a spare is secured to a hoist system behind the cab. Stopping power is from air-actuated brakes.
The cab houses a driver’s seat and a pair of passenger seats trimmed in gray patterned cloth. A Lowrance GPS receiver is mounted atop the dash, and the semi-floating center console has controls for the locking differentials, pneumatic emergency brake, lights, and power windows. The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a 75-mph speedometer, a 3k-rpm tachometer, auxiliary gauges, and digital displays for additional vehicle functions. The digital odometer indicates 16k miles .
The living quarters are outfitted with white walls, diamond-plate trim, woodgrain flooring, LED lighting, and battery-operated rechargeable lamps. House equipment includes a Windynation solar charge controller, a Cobra power inverter, and accessory control panels along with a water pump, freshwater and gray water tanks, and dual deep cycle batteries that were recently replaced.
The galley has tile countertops along with a stainless-steel sink, a microwave oven, overhead storage, and a Weize ice chest mounted on a slide-out platform.
The sleeping compartment is furnished with a memory foam mattress, a ceiling vent, a polished shelf, and a hinged window with a screen.
