This 1979 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 416 was used as a firetruck by the Norwegian Civil Defense . It is finished in orange and is powered by a 5.7-liter diesel inline-six mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and a three-range transfer case. Equipment includes a water pump, front and rear telescopic work lights, a rear pintle hitch, emergency lights, portal axles, and 20” steel wheels with Michelin X tires in addition to a folding tailgate panel and bedsides. The cab houses a pair of individual seats wrapped in gray cloth upholstery and separated by an engine cover with an attached table top. This Unimog offered with two suction hoses, a 25m discharge hose, a build sheet, an owner’s manual, a 1979 Norwegian vehicle registration document
The bodywork is finished in orange with blue accents. Equipment includes a black front bumper and fenders, front and rear telescopic work lights, a rear pintle hitch, side steps, twin spotlights, and Hella auxiliary lamps. The bed features a textured metal floor along with folding side and rear panels. The truck is equipped with emergency lights and a siren, the latter of which has been disconnected. The hood bears the faded text “Sivilforsvaret,” which translates to “Civil Defense” in Norwegian. The front bumper and fenders were repainted
The truck is equipped with a cab-controlled power take-off (PTO) system that uses engine power to drive additional accessories, including a water pump mounted under the left side of the bed. The front bumper also has an access cutout for a PTO shaft. Controls and instrumentation for the water pump are mounted between the bed and the cab.
The 20” steel wheels were painted black by the selling dealer and are mounted with Michelin X tires. A matching spare is mounted at the front of the bed, and the truck is equipped with disc brakes at all four corners.
The cabin houses individual seats that are trimmed in gray fabric and are separated by an engine cover with an attached tabletop. A panel of control levers for the transmission and PTO system sits between the seats, and a 12-volt converter is mounted in the passenger-side footwell beneath a storage shelf with a grab handle.
A two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of VDO instrumentation that includes a 100-km/h speedometer and a combination gauge. The six-digit odometer shows approximately 29k kilometers (~18k miles)
The 5.7-liter OM352 diesel four-stroke inline-six is accessed via the cabin or front hood, and it sends power to all four wheels via a manual gearbox with six forward gears, a three-range transfer case, and portal axles.
